Dispatch #03
Current reads, Witch Hat Atelier (I'm just talking about Qifrey), and rewatching Gilmore Girls
Writing a dispatch post on a Friday night… because I’ve been looking forward to this Friday night the entire week. That’s because I got a lot of things planned over the weekend: lots of reading, playing Animal Crossing (I have not played in months), continuing more of the Dandadan manga, some gym time, and catching up on Love and Deepspace’s main story. My excitement for all these planned activities led me to writing this week’s dispatch earlier than usual purely out of joy that it’s finally the weekend! I can’t wait.
I missed last week’s dispatch but I made up for it by publishing a longer personal essay. Actually, that one started out as weekly dispatch #3, until it turned way longer than I expected it to be so I decided to just make an essay out of it, since it started to feel so concentrated on a single topic anyway. It’s always so nice and meditative writing about writing.
Recently, I was almost tricked into buying a digital camera. And when I say “tricked,” I mean… by myself. Every time I feel stressed or tired, like everyone else, I convince myself that in order to feel a bit better about my situation, I could just get a little treat! Because I “deserve” it, or something. Except that little treat is a digital camera that I almost bought last week—which would have meant spending my money on something I might not even be putting to good use a few months from now. So I decided to sleep on it, and the next day someone else beat me to it. I took that as a sign. Maybe not now.
What I’m reading: The Rape of Nanking by Iris Chang (and all the other books I’ve previously added here: Grotesque and Sister in Yellow)
I’m a mood reader so I tend to read multiple books at once. It’s not a lot currently, just three. Sometimes I’d reach seven, or even eight. So I think I’m managing my current reads well this time. But yes—this week I went to the bookstore and bought two new books: The Rape of Nanking and The Soul of a Woman by Isabel Allende, the former having been in my reading list for over a year now, and for a subject as brutal and gruesome as it, I always knew I wanted to get through it in physical form. I’m only in the first chapter and I’m still finding the words to describe how I’m feeling reading it. It’s definitely a lot to process.
What I’m watching: Witch Hat Atelier, My Happy Marriage, and Gilmore Girls
So many good shows to watch, so little time. Admittedly, I’m not too fond of watching or reading fantasy and I only got started on Witch Hat Atelier because Qifrey really does look like Gojo. I’m aware that Qifrey was created first, but I can’t deny how similar they look! I see a character with white hair and blue eyes and I’m on it… I’ll watch it I swear.
My Happy Marriage has been stuck in my Netflix currently watching rotation for almost a year now. I don’t remember why I stopped watching midway through the first episode last year, but I’ve moved past it and so far I’m really liking it. I was expecting Kudo to be a bit sterner, though—maybe for a stronger plot buildup or more tension overall.
And Gilmore Girls, of course. This is my second (or third?) time rewatching it and I swear it never gets old. Nothing comforts me quite like it and it’s always motivating to see Rory with her books. Never fails to make me want to pick up my own and read.
…Which is what I’ll probably be doing for the rest of my night in. So—happy weekend!

Oo I loooved Witch Hat Atelier when I read it a couple of years ago!
